Vehicle Rescue Training

By Firefighter Robert Edwards
November 20, 2008

This week members gathered at the station to train on vehicle rescue operations. Lieutenants Pat Boyle and Bill Salinsky led the way, going over basic vehicle rescue techniques. Two rescue dummies were placed into the car acting as victims for the rescue team to extricate.

A rescue truck crew was put together and sent on there way to stage across the street so the doors of the car could be jammed shut. When the rescue arrived the crew split up into two separate teams, stabilization and tool operators. The crew removed all of the doors and took the roof off to gain access to the rescue dummy.

After extricating both victims from the car, senior fireman Chris Drach and Steve Edwards went over high and low pressure air bags with the crews.
