| On Sunday June 14th, 2025 around 10:23 PM, the Lionville Fire Company was called to assist the Twin Valley Fire Department (Station 69) on the eastbound side of the Pennsylvania Turnpike with an overturned tractor trailer that was blocking all traffic from passing the accident scene. Station 69 was unable to reach the accident scene due to the backlog of traffic and no shoulder access due to the construction area, Rescue 47 and Engine 47-5 made the response the wrong way, traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes, to access the accident scene and provide necessary manpower and equipment to rescue the driver still trapped in the cab. Upon arrival, Lionville members assisted Twin Valley in the extrication of one occupant trapped with their legs pinned to the seat by the steering wheel with the entire truck on its side along with the roof facing downhill. EVB towing arrived on scene and assisted in stabilizing the massive weight of the truck cab and trailer to prevent any dangerous movement while crews worked on the vehicle. Access was made through the windshield and fiberglass roof to remove the dashboard and steering wheel pinning the driver inside. The sole occupant was completely removed from the vehicle at 11:18 PM. The driver was transported to a local hospital for their injuries. Turnpike crews in the meantime were working hard to open the concrete barriers to allow stuck traffic to flow around the accident scene while heavy recovery crews removed the tractor trailer. Lionville Volunteers operated on the scene for around 2 hours. |
