Mass Casualty Incident Training

Members from the Lionville Fire Company, West Whiteland Fire Company, and Uwchlan Ambulance Corps conducted a mass casualty incident drill today simulating a auto accident involving multiple vehicles.

A mass casualty incident is any incident in which emergency medical services resources, such as personnel and equipment, are overwhelmed by the number and severity of casualties. The purpose of the drill was to train responders on what to do, and how to be prepared should this kind of incident ever happen.

This drill simulated a multiple vehicle accident on a divided highway, during a blizzard where resources would be stretched thin. This gave responders a chance to correctly triage patients utilizing a universal system so that multiple agencies can work together, which allows the most critically injured patients to be treated first.

Special thank you to Upper Uwchlan Township for the use of their facility on Milford road, and Eagle Service Center, Inc. for providing 6 vehicles used at the drill.
