Water Rescue Training

On Thursday evening, Lionville volunteers headed out to Marsh Creek State Park for water rescue training. Members conducted multiple training scenarios to enhance their skills as rescuers and boat operators.

Members were faced with a simulated injured victim that had fallen down a rock wall across the lake. Members worked together to assess and package the victim. The victim was then transported across the lake to the main shoreline.

Members were also put through a boat operator’s course. Every year, Lionville boat operators are re-qualified on their driving proficiencies. If you have ever witnessed the Lionville Fire Company train at Marsh Creek, your initial thought process might be that we drive aggressively. Our members train to conduct rescues on calm water, such as the lake, but also swift (fast moving) water rescues. Our aggressive turns and speed are part of our training. Our members are always looking out for the safety of ourselves and everyone around us. Lionville members are also part of the Chester County Technical Water Rescue Team, which is a group of highly trained volunteer members in Chester County. These members can be deployed all over the county to conduct water rescues in a variety of waterways.
