March 9th Double Header

Upper Uwchlan Township
Early Tuesday morning the Lionville Fire Company was dispatched to a report to a building fire at the Historic Eagle Tavern. Upper Uwchlan police reported fire in a shed or possibly on the roof. Battalion 47 (Bill Minahan) went on the scene with "fire showing first floor rear". Deputy Chief Chapman & Chief Holmes arrived moments later. Engine 47-2 arrived first with orders to enter through the front door. At this point the fire spread throughout the kitchen and was blowing out side B. Engine 47-2's crew forced the front door and encountered heat and heavy fire in the kitchen. Tower 47 arrived shortly after and began throwing ground ladders and ventilating the first floor for the Engine crew. Chief Holmes established command and began delegating assignments to on scene and incoming units (48, 73, 06, and 87). Ludwig's Corner Engine 73-2 dropped a supply line from the front of the Upper Uwchlan Township Building and supplied Engine 47-2. As things were winding down and Chief Holmes placed the fire under control, the county dispatch advised the Chief of a 2nd fire in our first due. The RIT team (Glenmoore Fire Co) was clearing so they made the response with Deputy Chief Mike Chapman and Engine 47-5. Additional units were called from Kimberton Fire Company, East Whiteland, West Whiteland and Malvern's Ambulance. Upon arrival Deputy Chapman reported heavy fire in the garage with possible extension into the house. First arriving crews made an aggressive attack on the fire before extending into the house. Units were in service for about 3 hours with extensive overhaul.
The State and County Fire Marshalls assisted with the investigations.
